Austin Butler attended public school until the seventh grade. He then switched to homeschooling to accommodate his acting schedule and later passed the California High School Proficiency Exam (CHSPE), earning his high school equivalency diploma.

Austin was born to Lori Anne (née Howell), an aesthetician, and David Butler. He has an older sister, Ashley , who worked as a background actress alongside him on Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide. His maternal great-great-grandparents were Finnish immigrants from Ostrobothnia, Finland.
Career
Austin Butler began his career in 2005 with minor roles in television. He gained recognition with appearances on Disney Channel and Nickelodeon,
notably on Zoey 101 (2007–2008). His career expanded with roles in The Carrie Diaries (2013–2014) and The Shannara Chronicles (2016–2017). In 2019, he portrayed Tex Watson in Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
His breakout role came in 2022 when he starred as Elvis Presley in Baz Luhrmann's biopic Elvis. His performance earned him the Golden Globe and BAFTA awards, along with an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor. Following this success, he appeared in The Bikeriders (2023) and portrayed Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen in Dune: Part Two (2024). He is also set to star in the upcoming film Eddington.
