Christopher Nolan was born in Westminster, London, to Brendan Nolan, a British advertising executive, and Christina Nolan, an American flight attendant and English teacher. He developed an interest in filmmaking at the age of 7, using his father's Super 8 camera to create short films.
He attended Haileybury and Imperial Service College in Hertfordshire before enrolling at University College London (UCL). He chose UCL because of its filmmaking facilities and earned a Bachelor's degree in English Literature.
