Life and Education
Moore was born to
Marilyn Wilson, a teacher of Irish and French-Canadian descent, and Sherrod
Moore, an African-American. Due to his mother's teaching assignments, Moore
spent parts of his early childhood in
Denmark and Bahrain, attending a
British private school until age seven. Upon returning to the U.S., he
lived in Chico and later Palo Alto, California. He attended The Nueva School and graduated from Gunn High School. Moore earned a Bachelor of Arts
degree in Communications with a minor in Theater Arts from Santa Clara University, where he also played varsity baseball.
Career
Moore began his
acting career in 1994 with the role of Malcolm Winters on the CBS soap opera "The Young and the Restless,"
a role he played until 2005, with occasional returns. From 2005 to 2016, he
portrayed FBI agent Derek Morgan on "Criminal
Minds," appearing in 251 episodes. In 2017, he took on the lead role
of Sergeant Daniel "Hondo"
Harrelson in the CBS series "S.W.A.T.,"
which has continued through 2025.
Moore has also
appeared in films such as "The
Brothers" (2001), "Diary of a Mad Black Woman" (2005), and
voiced the character Victor Stone/Cyborg in several DC animated films.
Additionally, he hosted the music-dance television program "Soul Train" from 1999 to 2003.
Personal Life
Moore has been in
relationships with soccer player Shawna
Gordon and actress Anabelle Acosta.
In 2023, he welcomed his first child, a daughter named Frankie, with partner Jesiree
Dizon. The couple reportedly separated in early 2025 but remain on good terms.
His mother, Marilyn Wilson, passed away in 2020
due to multiple sclerosis and a heart condition. Her death profoundly impacted
Moore, leading him to reflect on his life choices and embrace fatherhood. In
her memory, he founded Baby Girl LLC,
