to Margaret Anne (née Heyworth) and Peter Robert Law, both of whom were
schoolteachers. He has one older sister,

Jude Law began
acting in theatre with the National Youth Music Theatre and gained early
acclaim in the play Indiscretions (Les Parents Terribles) in the West End and
on Broadway, earning a Tony nomination.
He transitioned to
films in the 1990s with standout roles in Gattaca (1997) and The Talented Mr.
Ripley (1999), winning a BAFTA Award and earning his first Academy Award
